AIDA, The Musical
While I was in the middle of Cirque du Soleil’s, Paramour in Hamburg Germany, when I was approached to direct Aída and it was literally the most beautiful artistic freedom I have ever experienced. I was inspired by Robert Wilson’s visual aesthetics and I was able to create a unique vision of this production with my tanteld design team. Our lighting design had an ACDC rock concert feel, while our scenery emulates the visual aesthetics of Bob Wilson and in this very artistic world, in this world so exotic within their art, these 2 communities Nubia and Egypt had to entwine in the battle of acceptance, boasting once again the importance of valuing ourselves as human beings and not for the colors of our skins. Making the rock and the more abstract art of Robert Wilson also had an aesthetic fight within our show.
We tried to elevate the dramaturgy of the show from a visual way. – L.Salgado
